In this very well presented book, the author presents her meticulous research into early bobbin laces using sources from around the world.
In the first section, she describes the emergence of lace in fashion in the 16th century, its even earlier methods, materials and equipment and a further two sections present reconstructions of patterns from the very early pattern book, Nüw Modelbuch (c1561) and from private collections and museums, mainly in Europe. The latter section encourages the lacemaker to reproduce these very early laces.
Very clear photographs, line drawings and diagrams throughout.
A must-have book for anyone interested in the history of lace
