The author learned tatting at a young age from her mother, the well-known Japanese tatter Teiko Fujito. She is an instructor at the Kasumigaoka Lace School on Tokyo and has become known for creating classic, elegant designs that are both practical and beautiful.
This very well presented book begins with a well illustrated section on basic tatting, 'tips and tricks', how to read instructions and to finish a project which is ideal for the beginner and helpful to all. There follows a series of over 20 attractive projects, in three collections - one-shuttle tatting, two-shuttle tatting and split-ring tatting. These include motifs, doilies, bookmarks, a scarf, choker, bag, shawl and more. Each project is supported by an excellent photograph of the finished piece, a working diagram, written instructions and there are finishing instructions and special instructional diagrams where necessary. Each collection has instructions applicable to the techniques used.
Although these patterns have appeared previously in a book by the author written in Japanese, this edition, entirely in the English language and with much additional supporting detail will be welcomed by many.
