by Ulrike Voelcker
The author presents 23 exquisite patterns for flowers, a bird and geometric shapes. The title is taken from the little "ice flowers" that form on a frosted window - using a play on words, this also relates to the frosted sugar ground - the ice ground - used in the patterns. The designs have been adapted from a book by Richard Hofmann, dating from 1885. The Mechlin tecniques are appropriate for the experienced lacemaker, possibly those familar with Bucks Point methods.
Extremely detailed diagrams are a feature of the author's works and this is certainly the case here. Each pattern has prickings and extemely clear photographs and there are working detail diagrams where needed. An introductory section describes the techniques comprehensively and with finely detailed diagrams.
