Books > Lacemaking Books > Spanish Braid Lace

by Carolina de la Guardia
This numerical braid lace has been worked in SW Spain since the 1920s but traces its origins much further back, probably in Central Europe. Here, the author introduces the lacemaker to the technique and the different stitches available. This is followed by 9 patterns - including the piece shown on the cover - complete with a photograph of the finished lace. As is the custom, the patterns are presented without dots; the lacemaker pins evenly along the braid. Only ten pairs of bobbins are used.
