Idrija Spitze - Idrija Lace
by Irma Sedej & Maja Svetlik
Lace has been made in Idrija, a town in western Slovenia, since around 1670 and the skills have been handed down from generation to generation and in more recent years, these skills have been taught at the very active local lace school and interest has grown around the wider lace world.
This well presented book begins with a description of the methods and techniques for working the braids. This is followed by a pattern section with a variety of projects, including handkerchief corners, mats, clothing panels, brooches, table cloth corners and more. It closes with a number of projects for children, including an elephant and a cat
All are very well drafted, including pricking, working diagrams, and a black-and-white photograph. Text is in Slovenian, English and German.
