40 Temari Bobbin Lace Patterns

A collection of 40 lace patterns each in a Temari style - referring to the intricate and decorative embroidery that is a hallmark of the traditional Japanese craft of temari
Full size designs - 7.5 cm approximately in diameter and half size designs - 4.25 cm approximately in diameter
Each pattern has a photograph of the finished work, a pricking, usually a working diagram and thread/bobbin notes
Predominantly Torchon and Bedfordshire lace techniques used - a superb choice of designs
I reached out to Rieko for advice on the thread used - here is some useful information from Rieko to assist with your thread choice:
Japanese Kinkame silk thread #50 is the almost same size to "Miyakobane" sewing silk thread #50. According to a book "Threads for Lace" by Brenda Paternoster, Kinkame is 3Z and 38 wpc. Piper spun silk 140/2 and Pipers twisted Gloss silk 130/3 are the same size.
Gutterman Silk 100/3 (we stock this) is 3Z and 27 wpc. You can use the pricking by enlarging it to 140%
Rieko won the Individuals Trophy in the Lace Guild "Treasure" 2025 (for the best competition entry) and also the Teacher's Award (for the best entry by a teacher) competition with a montage of the Temari patterns
