Elizabethan Lace
by Gilian Dye
The laces which developed in the second half of the 16th century are familiar to us from portraits of Elizabeth I and others of wealth and status.
After brief historical notes, the author describes the techniques of this era - including needlaces, cutwork, reticella, bobbin laces and lacis (filet) - to enable the modern lacemaker to experiment with them.
Good photographs, and many clear line drawings and diagrams throughout.
