This is the first of an intended series of books covering aspects of 16th and 17th Century lace - all of which, it is believed, was English lace.

The author begins with  brief sections on equipment and materials, suggesting modern equivalents of the original, and on the techniques used.  She then uses surviving examples, found in various museums and galleries to illustrate the style and detailed techniques used for a variety of costume and other decorative pieces. The modern lacemaker is then able to work each piece, ideally using the approach to the work  used by the original lacemakers.

Excellent colour photographs, prickings, detailed instructions, and many clear line drawings and diagrams are provided throughout.
