Pettersson Lace
by Wivi-Ann Nordström
Pettersson lace was worked by the Pettersson family in southern Sweden at the beginning of the 19th century. At first glance it looks very much like Torchon lace but a closer look soon shows up the differences - it uses a freehand technique on a standard, universal pricking.
The author presents the results of her extensive research into the lace - including photographs of original pieces in museums and private collections, showing the original uses on local costume. The history of the lace and its unusual technique is also described.
This is followed by a section which includes 52 old and reworked patterns - sometimes very wide pieces.
Excellent presentation with very clear photographs, colour-assisted working diagrams, thread recommendations and notes on techniques.
