by Gilian Dye

The second of an intended series of books covering aspects of 16th and 17th Century lace - all of which, it is believed, was English lace.

The author begins with  brief sections on equipment and materials, suggesting modern equivalents of the original, and on the techniques used.  She then continues by describing in detail, five small samples of narrow lace, sent to Elizabeth Isham of Lamport Hall, Northamptonshire in 1620.  These are redrafted for the modern lacemaker with copious working notes. Other linen lace pieces from the period, which survive in various collections, are described similarly and thoroughly

Excellent colour photographs, prickings, detailed instructions, and many clear line drawings and diagrams are provided throughout.
